CONQA - Construction QA

Leading design of a multi-channel QA app for the construction industry

Role

CONQA - an app built to streamline the construction industry's growing QA and compliance requirements - has long been an engineering-led company, and as the sole designer, my input was wide-ranging.

The Challenge

With belts tightening industry-wide, we needed to continuously demonstrate value-adding upgrades and a responsiveness to subscribed customers. As an added challenge, the legacy codebase was also undergoing replacement.

Approach

The design approach was three fold:

  • First, work with stakeholders to define an audacious design lodestar, something ambitious but clear to everyone.
  • Second, work with the squads to ensure features and upgrades we delivered were polished, consistent, and usable.
  • And third, strengthen pathways between engineering, customer service, and sales staff in order to maximise visibility of the product roadmap and respond to customer needs.

Impact

By the time I left CONQA, all customer-facing features were validated with user testing before launch. Support staff had early visibility of any changes, and scripts for communicating with customers about them. Statuses and visual displays were clearer, and easier to understand at a glance.
